How it all started

A school, a bond and a promise to give back

Government College Victoria Island, in Lagos, sent out its first graduating set in 1979. Since then, every set that has left the school has taken the same crest and the same motto, “Education for Service”, into university, careers, families and public life.

Government College Victoria Island Old Boys Association (GOCOVIOBA) exists to keep that bond alive. It brings Old Boys of every graduating class together in one verified community, so that classmates can find one another, members can support one another in times of need, and the school can count on the generosity of those it educated.

The Association is run by elected executives who serve for a fixed term, under written rules and regulations, with open records of dues and donations. The sections below record its milestones, the officers who have led it, and each graduating class since 1979.
