Government College Victoria Island Old Boys Association ("GOCOVIOBA", "we", "us") runs this website and member portal. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Registration data: your name, email, phone number, class set, class stream, city, country and profession.
- Membership records: verification status, member ID, dues payments and eligibility score, welfare requests, event RSVPs and votes cast (we record that you voted, never how you voted).
- Messages: private chats with connected members, messages to the administrator, and discussion group posts.
- Technical data: IP address, browser and cookie data used for security and, if you allow it, analytics.
Photos
Member profiles use an initials avatar only. We do not store member profile photos.
How we use your data
To verify and manage membership, run the member directory, process dues, donations and welfare requests, run votes, send service emails, keep the portal secure and improve the site.
Directory and privacy controls
You decide whether you appear in the Alumni Directory and whether your email, phone, location and profession are shown. You can change these in Settings at any time.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data. Association officers see the data needed for their roles. Service providers (hosting, email delivery) process data on our behalf. We may disclose data where the law requires.
Retention and your rights
Membership is permanent, so we keep your record while you remain a member. You may ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, subject to association records we must keep, by contacting us at [email protected].
Security
Passwords are stored as hashes, payment proofs are kept in private storage, and access to administrator tools is restricted by role.
